1. Types of Sri Lankan Visas for Indian travelers

Indian tourists have several options when applying for a Sri Lankan visa, depending on the purpose and duration of their stay. The most common visas for Indian travelers include:

Tourist Visa (ETA): The Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) is the most convenient option for Indian tourists planning a short stay in Sri Lanka. This visa allows for a maximum stay of 30 days with the possibility of extending it up to 6 months. It is valid for a double-entry, meaning you can enter Sri Lanka twice within the validity period of your visa.

Business Visa (ETA): When visiting Sri Lanka for business purposes, such as attending conferences or business meetings, you can apply for the business ETA. It allows multiple entries and stays of up to 30 days per visit.

Transit Visa: For transiting through Sri Lanka to another destination and planning a stay of fewer than 48 hours, a transit visa can be obtained. It’s free of charge but requires an application.

2. Steps to apply for the Sri Lankan ETA

The most popular visa option for Indian tourists is the ETA. Here’s how to apply for it:

Step 1: Go to the official Sri Lanka Electronic Travel Authorization System website (www.eta.gov.lk) to begin the application process. Avoid third-party websites to prevent any additional fees or delays.

Step 2: Fill out the online application form. You will need to provide personal information including: Full name, date of birth, nationality, passport number and expiration date, travel details, including flight information and intended address in Sri Lanka (such as hotel or guesthouse details), and purpose of visit (tourism or business) etc.

Step 3: Pay the Visa fee that is required for the Sri Lanka ETA. The fee for a tourist visa is around $20 (subject to change based on government policies). Payment can be made online using a credit or debit card. Business ETAs cost more, around $30.

Step 4: Wait for approval. Once the application is submitted, Indian tourists usually receive their ETA approval within 24-48 hours. In some cases, it may take longer, so it’s advisable to apply at least a week before your travel date.

Step 5: Receive and print the ETA approval. Once your ETA is approved, you will receive an email confirmation. It’s recommended to print a copy of your ETA approval and carry it with you when traveling to Sri Lanka, although it is linked electronically to your passport.

And voila! You’re now set for your ideal relaxing vacation to the beautiful country of Sri Lanka!

Required documents: You’ll need to bring your passport, a completed visa extension form, proof of sufficient funds for your extended stay, and evidence of accommodation.

Fee: Visa extension fees depend on the length of your stay and the type of visa.

Processing time: Visa extension applications usually take 3-5 working days to process.
