Travel Tips for Spiti Valley

1. Altitude Acclimatization: The high altitude of Spiti Valley can cause altitude sickness. Spend a day or two acclimatizing in lower altitudes before ascending to higher elevations. Drink plenty of water and avoid strenuous activities initially.

2. Permits: Indian citizens do not require special permits to visit Spiti Valley. However, foreign nationals need an Inner Line Permit (ILP), which can be obtained from the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Shimla or Kaza.

3. Best Time to Visit: The best time to explore Spiti Valley is between late May and early October. During these months, the weather is relatively mild, and the roads are generally clear of snow.

4. Packing Essentials: Pack warm clothing, as temperatures can drop sharply, especially at night. Even during summer, nights can be quite cold. Sunscreen, sunglasses, and lip balm are essential to protect against the harsh sun and dry air.
