In a bid to enhance the travel experience of Indian passengers, Air India and the Lufthansa Group have significantly expanded their codeshare partnership. This collaboration adds 60 new routes, directly connecting 12 Indian cities to 26 European destinations while also extending Air India’s presence to three major American cities.
Enhanced Connectivity: Passengers from cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Kolkata can now access a broader network of European destinations, including Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, Brussels, and Munich. This expansion is made possible through Lufthansa Group’s key hubs in Frankfurt, Vienna, and Zurich.
Inclusion of Austrian Airlines: For the first time, Austrian Airlines has joined the codeshare agreement, allowing Air India passengers to connect via Vienna to various European cities. This addition strengthens existing partnerships with Lufthansa and SWISS International Air Lines, giving travelers more options.
Seamless Travel Experience: The expanded codeshare arrangement enables passengers to book their entire journey on a single ticket, ensuring streamlined baggage policies and smooth transfers. This integration makes international travel more convenient and hassle-free.
Extended Reach to the Americas: Beyond Europe, Air India’s designator code ‘AI’ is now included on select Lufthansa flights, giving Indian travelers access to destinations like Washington D.C., Rio de Janeiro, and São Paulo. This expansion creates new opportunities for both business and leisure travelers between India and the Americas.
Enhanced Frequent Flyer Benefits: As members of the Star Alliance, Air India and Lufthansa Group carriers offer reciprocal frequent flyer benefits. Passengers can earn and redeem miles across the combined network. Elite status holders in Air India’s Maharaja Club and Lufthansa Group’s Miles & More program will enjoy Star Alliance Gold privileges, including priority services, extra baggage allowance, and access to exclusive airport lounges worldwide.
